Play4Peace Slovakia

Slovak Sport Organisation

Slovak Sport Organisation aims to motivate people to be active via sport by organizing various sport events and projects. We believe that sport is the best way how to prevent diseases, contribute to well-being of citizens, but also to raise the awareness of general EU principles like tolerance and equality.

Play 4 peace tournaments in Slovakia

SSO organised 2 tournaments in June. One of the tournaments was focused on Voleyball and it was held in Lendak and second one was focused on football and held in banovce nad Bebravou. We brought together people from different backgrounds. The main participants were youngsters and youth workers. The activity also included coaches, P.E. teachers and sports staff. This event rise awareness for people with disabilities by using sport as a tool to provoke teamwork & cooperation, problem-solving, empathy, understanding, and citizenship by putting “in the other people’s shoes”.

This activity aimed to connect more disadvantaged youth and integrate them into daily life through sports with inclusive methods.
This event encouraged participants to gain new friends and develop social skills and self-confidence. We are happy that all participants were able to practice team sport, understand inclusivity, improve their teamwork skills and responsibility.

These events provided opportunities for personal growth outside of everyones comfort zone by getting a chance to cultivate their enthusiasm.

Youth exchange in Turkey, Afyonkarahisar

The Slovak team participated in the mobility in the Turkish town of Afyonkarahisar, known as the “jewel among the mountains” because of its geographical location. The town is known for its rich history, thermal springs and natural beauty. In addition to Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and host Turkey also participated in the project and ensured the smooth running of the programme. Arrival was followed by a week full of activities aimed at integrating disadvantaged youth into society, including workshops, discussions and sports such as football, volleyball and basketball, adapted for the handicapped. Participants also experienced Turkish culture, including a celebration of Circumcision and a visit to a thermal spa. A discussion with the mayor of Bolvadin and a trip to Antalya with historical sites and relaxation by the sea also enriched their experience. The end of the mobility included a cultural night where each country presented its cultural heritage.

Final conference in Romania

The Play for Peace conference took place in Targu Jiu, Romania. During a one-day conference at the University of Targu Jiu, we presented the results of the project. The mobility participants in Turkey prepared a short summary of how they felt about the exchange and what they learned and presented their experiences. Each country presented their organisations, including our Slovak Sport Organisation. Our Romanian hosts presented us with hand-painted pictures and Play for Peace trophies. After the conference, we tasted traditional Romanian food and learned about local sights. The conference was a perfect summary of the project and an evaluation of the successful activities. In addition, we again had the opportunity to further deepen the relationships between the representatives of the organizations.

Final meeting in Slovakia

The final partners’ meeting took place in Bratislava, Slovakia in the end of January 2025

The project partners from Romania, Turkey, Hungary and Slovakia met at the final meeting of the Play 4 Peace project. 🌍 Together we evaluated the successful activities, planned the next steps and discussed the dissemination of the project’s messages. In the evening we shared moments with Slovak specialties and strengthened our friendships.

The meeting was intense and lasted for 2 days, during which we managed to get a lot of work done. We agreed on the final steps of the project, evaluated all important aspects and fine-tuned the gradual closing of the project. At the same time, we had an inspiring discussion aimed at disseminating the results of the project and its sustainability after its official end.
